1. Fishing at Kiwanis Recreation Park 

If you find yourself feeling a little stressed this summer, you should strongly consider going fishing at Kiwanis Recreation Park at 301 Latimore Street. The fishing pond in this park is stocked by ODNR every April, and you can find several species of fish here, including Bullhead Catfish, Rainbow Trout, and Largemouth Bass.

2. Boating Up Grand River and Lake Erie

You can also boat up Grand River and Lake Erie if you want to get some fresh air. You can tow your small boat to Grand River Landing at 1181 North St. Clair Street with your 2023 Ram 1500 and access both Grand River and Lake Erie. Besides boating, you can fish from the banks of the Grand River. You may be able to catch a Smallmouth Bass or Steelhead.

3. Visiting the Painesville Railroad Museum

Another fun summer activity you can drive to is visiting the Painesville Railroad Museum at 475 Railroad Street. This museum is dedicated to restoring the Painesville Depot, preserving the history of the railroads that helped us build our nation, and fostering a passion for model railroading. We recommend keeping an eye on their calendar.

There are several events hosted by the museum throughout the summer, including the Railroad Memorabilia Show. For just $5, you can meet like-minded people and take a step back in time while seeing artifacts from the heyday of the railroad. You can see railroad signals that haven’t been used in decades and dinnerware that could be found in old dining cars. You can also purchase souvenirs.

4. Enjoying the Holden Arboretum

Additionally, you can drive to the Holden Arboretum at 9550 Sperry Road if you are feeling a bit disconnected from nature. There is a lot to love about this arboretum, including its accessibility. There is plenty of wheelchair-accessible parking, and you can rent an electric scooter for the day. Additionally, there is a 45-minute tram tour with boarding twice hourly from 11 to 3:45.
